Here is some of the more recent feedback we have received from our students.
Sructure and Flexibility
A big thank you, for your support and guidance over the last 12 months. I thought the course was well structured and the flexibility of distance learning enabled me to fit the studying around a busy home / work life. I would definitely recommend Tiller to others.

Dreams or Nightmares?
Peter, Thank you, I am relieved and happy(to have passed the exams). I see secondary ports and cyclonic depressions in my sleep the last 2 weeks and I’m not joking!
I think it was really worth it this course, I’ve learned many things and mostly not so much hard facts, as the right attitude to some things.
I can’t imagine how somebody would do this course in 5 days in a classroom, it’s simply too much to really sink in in 5 days, I’m glad I did this course at Tiller.

Comprehensive, Clear and Well Set Out
Thank you. I have enjoyed doing this course and have learned quite a bit from it. I thought the course material was very comprehensive, clear and well set out, and had the right balance of theory and practical advice. I will certainly recommend it to others thinking of doing their Yachtmaster qualification.
Thank you too for your helpful comments along the way.
With regards

Yachtmaster Ocean
The whole course was very well broken down in to little steps.
I was very satisfied with the course and will not hesitate to recommand it to other persons.

Easy to follow and plenty of back up.
Many thanks for sending my marked papers through and for my pass certificate which I was delighted to receive!
I just thought I’d send you a quick e-mail to say that I enjoyed doing the course, albeit it took me a bit longer to get through than I originally estimated, and would recommend it to anyone who, like me, struggles to find time to do a 5 day residential type course. I found all the course material was excellent and very easy to follow, with plenty of back up via the website and would certainly consider doing further courses this way in the future. Best of all I still have it all for future reference as I printed out each section and have kept it in a folder along with my exercises and revision notes!

Some students just come back for more and more. You will see earlier comments from Andrei below
Great quality lectures and accompanying material. The lecture on anchoring and scope in small depths was a real eye-opener. Also, despite trying, I could not remember the individual types of clouds before reading the Tiller weather lecture. I also liked that you had included revision lectures, although I did not need to use them. I would wholeheartedly recommend Tiller courses.
Andrei Badea - April 2011
Comprehensive and Most Stimulating
I found that all aspects of the course were comprehensive and most stimulating to work through. It was thoroughly enjoyable.
I believe that material presented is finely honed and readily learnt with excellent worked examples and questions throughout the lecture notes.

In a Different League
I thought the written course material excellent - I particularly liked the frequent questions to make sure I grasped the issues as I read. Further, the examples were not simply theoretical, but relevant to what I might experience in real sailing situations - and therefore far more valuable than many more theoretical books on the subjects. The outstanding lectures, to me, were those on Weather (Part 2) and Passage Planning, with their host of local examples. I expect to refer to them again and again. Compared to the company I took my Day Skipper shorebased with, your course is in a different league and I'd have no hesitation in recommending you to others.
I look forward to my Radar and First Aid courses with you later this year - and to putting my new-found knowledge into play over 2011 and beyond. I may be back for the Yachtmaster Ocean Shorebased in due course!

On Passing the Exams
Peter,
That is great news. Thank you.
I have been thoroughly impressed by my Tiller experience and would definitely recommend studying with you to others. In case it is of any use, feel free to use some or all of the attached feedback on PR material...
I was a little wary of doing a correspondence course at first and only opted for this when I couldn’t find any classroom based courses with dates that suited me. In retrospect, I am delighted that I chose this path as I am convinced I have learned (and will remember) more this way.
This was the first time that I have studied using distance learning and it is definitely not an easy option (you still need to do all the work!). However, having wisely followed the advice given in the Tiller course guide on how to plan and undertake my study, I comfortably completed the course in the timescales I was targeting.
The strengths of the Tiller course for me:
· Frequent questions throughout the lectures self-tested my knowledge and understanding and left me well prepared for the course and exam papers. There is no option to sit quietly in the classroom during lectures letting others answer all the questions for you.
· The materials were all excellent: written in a very amenable and straightforward way, clearly based on Tiller’s experience of knowing the areas where people can struggle or get confused.
· All the extra materials on the CD outside of the lectures were great additions and I used most of them at some point including: slide deck presentation, web links, additional papers, on-line CollRegs self-test.
· The marking of course and exam papers was very prompt (far quicker than I was expecting) and balanced encouragement with clear advice on areas for improvement.
· Any questions throughout the course were responded to in a promptly, friendly and clear way.
A very happy student looking forward to applying it all on my practical course next week.
Thank you!

Depth of Knowledge
Hi Tiller Folks,
I took my Yachtmaster exam last month. I went initially for the Coastal, but after a few days at a ‘prep school’, the instructor put me forward for Offshore. The examiner on the day was very happy with my depth of theory, and so passed me with far less ‘probing’ than the others in my group were subjected to.
I think this must be testament to the quality of your YM theory course, as this has pretty much been my main source of ‘book knowledge’.
So, thanks very much, it turned out to be well worth the effort.

The Full Set
I found the three tiller courses which I have done (day skipper, coastal skipper and finally ocean) excellent to work through as well as being very interesting and would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone
I would love to be able to put it all to use some day...

Another One Added to the Ranks?
I would just like to say what a thoroughly enjoyable weekend I had messing about in your boat. Pete is a great instructor, amiable and relaxed and carefully pointing out how to do things properly. It is so easy to forget large chunks of information just after being told it.
We were blessed with the weather and everyone got on really well together. I found that the best way to learn sailing was to stand up and do it. Sometimes I stood up and couldn't remember what to do but Pete was always there with a gentle reminder.
Competent crew next for me? Who knows? The sails still have magic in them for me.
John Roxborough - June 2010
What worked well?
- Flexibility and quick turnround time
- the backup materials were generally very useful as well
- lots of useful and very important information. I liked the checklists in the Safety module.
Emmanuael Van der Stichele - May 2010
Great Course
Thank you for the great course.
Andrei Badea - April 2010
Excellent Tuition
This is the second course that I have done with tiller. In both courses the standard of tuition has been excellent and I have recommended the school to other people.

A Superb Course with a Touch of Humour
I am really pleased to have passed, thanks for all your help. I think your course has been superb, with a nice touch of humour in places, and I have also enjoyed reading about navigation and meteorology in greater depth in the book pack you supplied. Looking at the full file I have made of the coursework modules, I feel that I have got a good amount of information that I can use as reference for refreshing my memory and passage planning etc. All I need now is to buy the boat!!

Well Organised and High Quality
The course materials are very well organised and very high quality.

Something to Learn Even For The Experienced
I would just like to thank you both for an excellent course!! The lecture material was outstanding and the feedback and comments after each exercise very helpful. I was learning right the way through the course, even though I have worked on the water for many years. I have been recommending Tiller to many people and have recently returned from a sailing holiday with sailingholidays.com where there was a lot of interest. I thoroughly enjoyed my study time with Tiller.

"Professional Presentation"
I've enjoyed the course hugely and will missit now that I've finished. Everything associated with the course was very profesional, the presentaion of the printed and electronic material, the self testing techniques used, the interactive modules and the tuition and feedback. The interactive modules were especially good as they presented information in a different manner, rather than echoing the lectures.
Jennie Horton - September 2009
"Allowed in the Design"
I have enjoyed the course and I found it to be very beneficial. It took me longer than I anticipated due to my business commitments, but then the course allows for this in its design. I am very grateful for Bill Munnery’s support and helpful feedback.

"From A Successfull Day Skipper Student"
I am doing DS practical in September and may then do CS/YMO over the winter. If so I will definitely use Tiller. I have enjoyed the course. Thanks for your help.

"Exceeded Expectations"
Fantastic, I really appreciated the course. So, again thanks to both of you, the course completely met and exceeded my expectations.
Steve Manning - July 2009
"Streets Ahead"
Many thanks for the quick turnaround and feedback - I will try to improve the plotting skills. May I also comment on how much I am enjoying your course. I started YM a few years ago with another supplier but did not finish. Your course content, approach and feedback is streets ahead!
Dave Young - February 2009
"An Enjoyable Course in Every Way"
Thanks for the certificate. I very much enjoyed the course in every way. I particularly appreciated your cooperation with Clubsail which allowed me to sit the exams down there before going on with the YM prep. It worked out perfectly.
